Can Aloe Vera Ease Your Dog's Digestive Issues?
It can be a nightmare to manage a dog with chronic gastrointestinal issues. Upset stomach or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can be frustrating to control. Medications and smaller meals can help. But is there anything else that can provide relief for your dog?
Aloe vera has been used for centuries to provide relief for both humans and dogs. When used externally, its' antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects can soothe skin irritations.
The aloe vera leaf contains at least 160 ingredients. The synergy effect of these ingredients help to heal and maintain health.
Aloe contains the following healing ingredients:
- Monosaccharides and polysaccharides - These single-chained and long-chained sugars are anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-stimulating. They can bind on the surface of the GI tract to prevent toxins from being absorbed.
- Amino acids - These agents help repair the body.
- Enzymes - These are the catalysts that can aid digestion. They contribute to absorption of sugars, proteins, and lipids. They can also help to destroy free radicals, which can be toxic to the body.
- Minerals and macronutrients - These are essential to maintain a healthy body. Without a balance, a deficiency can lead to cancer and heart attacks.
- Vitamins - These help to remodel and repair the body. Aloe is rich in B vitamins, as well as vitamin C and vitamin E.
The increased water content of aloe (98% water) can improve flow and digestion through the GI tract. Aloe aids in the absorption of vitamins, and prevents toxins from being absorbed. The natural enzymes in aloe can ease digestion and reduce stress on your dog’s GI tract.
